Pharmacists who work in this field are employed by HMOs, PBMs, and other managed care organizations. These pharmacists provide direct patient care, monitor patient outcomes to determine which therapies are most effective, design and manage pharmacy benefits, and organize, support, and participate on pharmacy and therapeutics committees to establish the types of drugs used by their organizations. Responsibilities include: Cultivate pharmacy business through direct and indirect interaction with customers, consultants and brokers. Support final presentations, renewal meetings and general education sessions. Work closely with market segments to increase understanding of APM products and programs, develop profitable pharmacy membership and improve brand recognition. MANAGED CARE PHARMACIST
This position is responsible for ensuring implementation of the Alliance Formulary; utilizing applicable policies, including authorization and advisement on claims issues; performs pharmacy utilization review and develops cost-effective pharmacy measures; and, provides liaison with the pharmaceutical and medical communities relative to prescription of medications.
